SRVUSD Communication: COVID-19 Updates 12.01.21
Posted 12/2/21

Dear SRVUSD Community,

We wanted to provide you with an update regarding COVID-19 based inquiries we are getting from our community.

Vaccine mandate: The mandate is not currently in effect, and based on our current understanding it will not take effect during the 2021-2022 school year:

On October 1, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a COVID-19 student vaccination mandate. At this time, the earliest possible date the mandate would go into effect is in July 2022 for the 2022-2023 school year.

The state of California is in the process of determining all of the details on the vaccine mandate. As we receive information about vaccination requirements and exemptions for the 2022-2023 school year we will update our community. More information can also be found in this COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate FAQ. The FAQ will be updated as we receive further developments and additional information from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

Vaccination locations for Children Ages 5 - 11: There are many options available to schedule vaccine appointments:

SRVUSD wants to make sure you have the most up-to-date information should you be looking for vaccine appointment availability. SRVUSD is aware of the new variant recently discovered and is keeping a close watch on updates. We encourage all eligible students and staff to get vaccinated as recommended by the California Department of Public Health.

We’ve listed some readily available vaccine service options below. You can find other options online at Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS). All persons ages 5 and older can get vaccinated at a CCHS site even if they do not live or work in Contra Costa County. Once your student is vaccinated, please remember to upload their COVID-19 vaccination documentation.

**Updated** Masking Guidance for School-Based Extracurricular Activities (sports, music, etc.) from the CA Department of Public Health (CDPH):

Effective 12/6/21

  • Activities may be performed outdoors without masks.

  • Masks are required indoors at all times for teachers, referees, officials, coaches and other support staff, as well as all spectators and observers. This includes when participants are getting ready to play, on the sidelines, in team/class meetings or within locker rooms and weight rooms.

  • Masks are not required for indoor sports when students are actively practicing, conditioning, or competing.

  • Students using instruments indoors that cannot be played with a mask (e.g., wind instruments) may perform if bell coverings are used AND a minimum of 3 feet of physical distancing is maintained between participants.

  • Students participating in unmasked indoor extra-curricular activities will undergo COVID-19 screening testing at least once weekly, regardless of vaccination status.
